Family Pride and Royal Bloodlines

Despite what my side bar quote says, I do take pride in one other thing, and that is my family line. I realize that just coming from great people doesn't make you great yourself but it sure gives you a lot of inspiration to step it up a make yourself a better person. So here is how it all breaks down for at least one line of the family, the other lines are great as well but my dad's maternal line is amazing . . . My dad's patriarchal blessing says that he "comes from one of the greatest families on the earth"

Brigham Young and Maryanne Angel had...

Joseph Young who married Maryanne Whitehead, they had . . .

Richard Young who married Minerva Richards, they had . . .

Richard Young Jr. who married Vera Parkinson, they had . . .

Geraldine Young who married Jack Sharp, they had . . .

Christopher Sharp who married Karen Woodland, they had . . .
Daniel Sharp who married Lisa Mitchell.

And the rest is history.

My thanks to my father who reconnected our gospel chain that was temporarily broken by my great-grandfather Richard Young. Sadly, although Richard Jr. served a mission and was promised that he would one day serve as an apostle in the church, he forsook his testimony of the gospel during the latter end of his life.

"The word of the Lord, through our Prophet(Joseph Smith in the D&C) and founder, to the chosen instruments of the modern Priesthood, was this - "Ye are the lawful heirs according to the flesh, and your lives have been hid with Christ in God." That is to say, they have been held in reserve during the reign of Mystic Babel, to be born in due time, as successors to the Apostles and Prophets of old, being their children, of the same royal line. They have come forth, at length, as heirs to the keys of power, knowledge, glory, and blessings, to minister to all nations of the gentiles, and afterwards to restore the tribes of Israel. They are the royal blood of Abraham, Issac, and Jacob, and have a right to claim the ordination and endowements of the priesthood, inasmuch as they repent, and obley the Lord God of their fathers."
-Brigham Young- Journal of Discourses vol. 1 page 262.

The meaning of the Doctrine and Covenants quote Brigham uses, as well as his own commentary is cryptic but some believe that it refers not only to a blood relation of the modern prophets to Abraham and other prophets but to Christ himself. That means that the Davinci code may have had some truth to it, the bloodline of Christ was protected until it came in purity through John Lathrop to the Smith Family and Some of Joseph's other associates.

Zion: Quote of the day

Whenever we are disposed to give ourselves perfectly to righteousness, to yield all the powers and faculties of the soul (which is the spirit and the body, and it is there where righteousness dwells); when we are swallowed up in the will of him who has called us; when we enjoy the peace and the smiles of our Father in Heaven, the things of his Spirit, and all the blessings we are capacitated to receive and improve upon, then we are in Zion, that is Zion. -Brigham Young JD Volume 1 page 3-

First Post 2-4-08

I have browsed enough blogs to realize that there are many blogs out there that are not really read at all, I have no false imaginations that this will be a place that is frequented by anyone other than myself. I have started this blog as a place to write my own thoughts and feelings on the gospel as often as time will permit.

I have set a goal to read the entire 26 volumes of the Journal of Discourses within the next two to three years. At 1/2 to 1 volume a month I can easily accomplish this in the alloted amount of time.

As I have been reading the first volume of this series I have been amazed by the spirit and power contained in the discourses of our early church leaders. Each sermon was delivered without any notes or preparation, these men truly taught "by the spirit".

Among others things, I will use this blog as a place to post some of the teachings and sayings that inspire me the most as I read this large collection of discourses.

If you stumble onto this blog, I hope that some of the items posted will inspire you as much as they have me.
